How to pitch editors workshop — Feb 16, 2017

How to pitch editors and get your story published:  a magazine writing workshop with the independent media tutor David Atkinson. Friday, February 16, 2017, 10am-1pm; Chester.

Publishing is changing. But good ideas will always sell — if you know to pitch them and turn them into paid commissions.

Building on ideas from my previous workshops, I will share my insider tips on how to get your story published and get paid for it.

This three-hour, practical session will feature a mix of new ideas and hands-on exercises.

By the end of the workshop you will be able to pitch, secure commissions and file great copy. We will consider the following:

  • How to generate the kind of ideas editors want
  • How to approach commissioning editors with your stories
  • How to turn that copy around to ensure they use it
  • How to build a community of editors and start earning money

The morning starts with coffee on arrival, then three hours of personal tuition and exercises. You have the option to pick my brains informally over lunch afterwards (lunch not included in the cost).

I’m a freelance writer and independent media tutor with 15 years experience of making a living from selling words.

My portfolio includes travel features for the Daily Telegraph, guest blogger for Visit Wales and online copywriting for various tourist boards and travel companies.

Message me with any questions.
